An Art School Blog

About me:
My name is Azalea and I am an undergrad at Arizona State University pursuing a BFA in both drawing and photography. I work as a full time artist in Phoenix. This is where I'll be sharing some of my projects from classes, things I'm currently working on, and other things that interest me.

Some of my Favorite Past Projects

Anomaly
This first project is probably my favorite out of all the projects I've done for classes. It was for a 3D design class I took last semester, and the goal was to make an anomaly in space. So I did just that, and titled it "Anomaly". I spent about 25 hours on it, and about the same amount of money on it ( which is nothing compared to some of my other projects). It is all made of wood, and painted with white acrylic paint. I was really nervous when the due date came because I didn't think it would stand, but it did! All the time, money, and work was definitely worth it.

Casting Pewter
This project was from the same 3D class. For this project we got cuttlefish bone, then carved out a design wish would serve as a mold for the pewter. We then heated up the pewter so that it became liquid, poured it into the mold, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then it would come out as the design we carved out. In my case it was a pyramid. This class was definitely out of my comfort zone, and I was really nervous about it first, but it helped me learn a lot and some of my favorite projects have come out of it.

Printmaking
I took a 2 dimensional design class my first semester; the instructor was really great and the projects were too which made up for the fact that it was at 7:30 in the morning. This project was the first time I had ever done any type of print making. We made different stencils ( each was a different layer of color) out of clear sheets of plastic, then dabbed different colors of paint over each one until the image appeared.
