An Art School Blog

About me:
My name is Azalea and I am an undergrad at Arizona State University pursuing a BFA in both drawing and photography. I work as a full time artist in Phoenix. This is where I'll be sharing some of my projects from classes, things I'm currently working on, and other things that interest me.

Seeing the Artwork in NYC

Metropolitan Museum of Art

The first week of January I went to New York City with a couple friends and it was the most amazing experience I've ever had. Seeing the work of some of the most famous artist that have ever lived was surreal. It's never the same seeing a painting or a photograph in person as it is just seeing them on a computer screen.
We visited the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the NY Public Library had an amazing photography exhibition going on while we were there. There was work by Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dali, Jackson Pollock, Ad Reinhardt and hundred of other artist.  The exhibition at the NY Public Library had work on display by Maxime Du Camp, Alfred Stieglitz, Eugene Atget, Martin Parr, and many others. Here are a few photographs from my trip:

These are just a few of the pieces we saw out of hundreds.
I listened to some visitors talk about some of the work while in the museums and a lot of people were saying things like "Why did we pay $50 for this?!?" as they rushed through the rooms. But if you actually spend time with a painting or a photo it can be a totally different and new experience.
If you're ever in New York you should definitely visit the museums. It can be an experience you'll never forget.
Thanks for looking.
