An Art School Blog

About me:
My name is Azalea and I am an undergrad at Arizona State University pursuing a BFA in both drawing and photography. I work as a full time artist in Phoenix. This is where I'll be sharing some of my projects from classes, things I'm currently working on, and other things that interest me.

NYAA Summer Residency

These first two weeks of my residency have been unforgettable. It's the first time I've ever participated in something like this so I didn't know what to expect, but it has been a great experience so far. We have a couple studio classes a week; one drawing class and one painting class. The classes are a lot more technical than what I'm used to but it has definitely been very helpful and eye opening. Each one of us has a studio space; here are a few pictures of my space and some of the work I've done in the first two weeks.
I actually did my first oil painting ever during this time which was very intimidating because everyone else in this residency seems to be a painter. My time here has been great and, like I said, I have definitely learned a lot about the technical side of art, and the art world in New York City. I do wish we had more time with the art instructors and a little more guidance with our personal art work.

The rest of the residency is also going great! The people I've met here are really amazing and it's awesome to be with so many people that are interested in the same things as me. And we are on the very top floor so the view from our room is amazing!

We're staying in a NYU dorm and it's relatively new so it's really nice. It's actually a lot nicer than I thought it would be.
Aside from studio classes we have been seeing the city and taking advantage of what NYC has to offer. So far we've visited the Brooklyn bridge a couple times:

the art galleries in Chelsea:
And so much more!
Thanks for looking! I'll share more later!
